Sgt. Stubby hits the big screen Sunday night

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) - It was a big day on Sunday in The Elm City.

The red carpet screening of the movie "Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero" is taking place Sunday evening at Bow Tie Criterion Cinemas.

The film is based on the life of a stray dog named Stubby.

In 1917, he ran into Private Robert Conroy at an Army camp in New Haven, which is documented in the movie.

Stubby and Conroy would both travel to Europe in the 102nd Infantry Regiment during World War I.

Both came home as heroes.
