Niantic woman turning Christmas sweaters from “drab” to “frab”

It’s become trendy to bundle up and show off your ugly Christmas sweaters during the holidays

But not all Christmas sweaters are ugly.

“I don’t make ugly Christmas sweaters. I make very pretty Christmas sweaters.”

Meet Peggy Fayden – a Connecticut native whose love for knitting has been woven through the generations.

“When I was about 10 my mom started to teach me how to knit.”

Over the past 60 years she’s mastered the art of yarn.

“I knit constantly. at least 4 hours a day – I’m knitting. It’s extremely calming.”

Getting a handcrafted sweater from Peggy has become a Christmas tradition for her relatives.

“They put in their orders in the summer – telling me they like sweaters or hats, or socks.”

Peggy is going to teach you the tricks of the trade.

“You go in through the loop. in through the window, around the post, under the window sill, and off jump’s jack. The stitch comes off the needle. It sounds like we’re building a house here, not knitting.”

Here we are – sweater squad. Happy Holidays!
