'Game of Thrones' documentary to be released, and fans search for real-life throne

(ABC News) - If you're a "Game of Thrones" fan who can't bear to say goodbye to the series, HBO's got a special treat for you.

The cable channel will cap off the show's eighth and final season in May with a two-hour "bonus" documentary, titled, "Game of Thrones: The Last Watch."

HBO says rather than being simply a "making of" documentary chronicling the final six-episode season, the special presentation will be "a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world -- and then have to say goodbye to it."

British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay, who directed the project, was given "unprecedented access" for the feature-length doc, according to HBO, which describes it as "an up-close and personal report from the trenches of production, following the crew and the cast as they contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers."

Also in "Game of Thrones" news ahead of the April 14 Season 8 premiere, the show sent fans on a global scavenger hunt looking for six hidden iron thrones all around the world. This isn't the first time HBO has had fun with the show's impending release: Two years ago, white walkers were unleashed on London ahead of Season 7.

Some fans have been savvy enough to find five of the thrones scattered throughout the globe. HBO Canada shared a picture of a fan sitting in the throne, with the caption, "A true queen goes anywhere #ForTheThrone, even beyond the Wall. Birgit has staked her claim. #ThroneofIce."

While that throne remains unclaimed, what we know for sure is April 14 will bring a massive battle between the Night King and those like Jon Snow who fight to oppose his massive army. Who will win and claim the throne on the show remains to be seen.
