1 dead after serious crash in Putnam


A serious crash in Putnam on Saturday near the Rhode Island border has left one person dead. 

Officials said 70-year-old Roland Marois of Chepachet, Rhode Island and 94-year-old Raymond Breault were both traveling on Route 44 in opposite directions when they crashed. 

Police said Breault’s car crossed the yellow divider and struck Marois’ car. 

Both individuals were transported to UMASS Hospital with serious injuries. Marois was pronounced deceased, succumbing to the injuries sustained in the collision. 

The accident is currently under investigation. Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Connecticut State Police Troop D at 860-779-4900.
