1 dead in West Haven crash

News

West Haven police officers reported that patrol were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in West Haven on Sunday night. 

The police’s investigation lead them to believe a Ford model pickup truck was traveling north on First Avenue when it struck both a utility pole and a pedestrian. The car then continued to drive off the roadway until finally stopping on a nearby front lawn.

The driver sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. 

The suspect, currently unknown, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Due to the serious nature of the incident, members of the WHPD Major Accident Squad (M.A.S.) were called in to complete the investigation.

Police are issuing a warning regarding traffic, saying that the investigation may last into the morning hours and anyone traveling near the accident scene is advised to avoid the area of First Avenue from Elm Street to Center Street as it will be closed for the duration of the investigation.

West Haven police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident to call our traffic division at 203-937-3925.
