KILLINGLY, Conn. (WTNH)– A 15-year-old boy was found dead along I-395 in Killingly, Wednesday night.

State police confirm to News 8 that state troopers located the deceased teen just before 11 p.m., on the southbound shoulder of Interstate 395, between exits 41 and 38.

Police have identified the teen as Gabriel Stapleton, a student at Killingly High School. The Interim Superintendent of Schools released the statement below on the teen’s death:

Thank you for your condolences on the recent passing of one of our Killingly High School students. The police have informed us that there was a pedestrian death that occurred on Rt. 395 last evening that is under investigation. Our staff is responding promptly and compassionately and support is being provided to students and staff by our mental health professionals. We are grateful for the additional support that we are receiving from neighboring school districts during this very sad time.”

Police say this is a non-criminal death and an autopsy will be performed. The incident remains under investigation.
