Two dead in truck, mail truck crash in Mass., near Enfield line


LONGMEADOW, Mass (WWLP) – A USPS worker and another victim has died in a crash on Route 5 in Longmeadow near the Connecticut line on Thursday.

USPS has identified Dan Nacin, 59, from the Enfield Post Office Branch as one of the victims in the fatal accident. USPS said Nacin celebrated his 40th anniversary of service in May.

Hampden County District Attorney identified the second victim as 47-year-old David Cersosimo of Rocky Hill, CT, according to News 8’s sister station WWLP.

Both victims were pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center.

Part of Route 5 in Longmeadow was closed due to a car crash; the road has sinced reopened.

WWLP reports Enfield Police began chasing a pick-up truck driven by Cersosimo on Route 5 in Enfield when he allegedly failed to stop and had sideswiped a vehicle around 11:00 am. The DA’s officer told WWLP Cersosimo proceeded on Route 5 in Longmeadow where he collided with the US Postal truck driven by Nacin.

According to Massachusetts State Police, the crash happened at around 11:30 a.m. at Longmeadow Street and South Street.

Route 5 (Longmeadow St) is shut down at the CT line, due to a major traffic accident. Please avoid that area. We will provide updates as we get them. Thank you.

WWLP’s crew saw a truck involved with debris on the top of the car and all over the road, and the road is closed off with police tape around the area.

According to the 22News crew, there are about 12 police cars including Longmeadow Police, Enfield Police and State Police assisting with the accident.

22News has contacted Longmeadow police, but they were unable to provide more information.
