HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Two women are now dead after a crash in Hartford on Jan. 16.

According to police, 24-year-old Tina Fontanez and 23-year-old Catalina Melendez, both of Hartford, have died after being hit by a car in the area of 95 Vine Street.

Officials say the victims had just exited a cab and were in the travel lanes of the road when they were struck. The driver of the vehicle then allegedly fled the scene.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital. Fontanez succumbed to her injuries later that night, while Melendez died on Jan. 23.

According to police, the registered owner of that car, 25-year-old Lorenzo Ivery, of Hartford, reported it stolen to police. However, after reviewing evidence and surveillance video, detectives say Ivery was an occupant in the car during the incident.

Ivery is facing multiple charges including Evading an MVA with Death. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.

The incident remains under investigation. Officials are continuing to search for the operator of the vehicle.
