WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Two students were stabbed in an on-campus apartment at the University of Hartford Sunday afternoon.
Police say 21-year-old Jake Wascher, a commuter student, was working on a group project with a 21-year-old student and a 19-year-old student. They were acting out a movie scene for a class project. In the movie, someone is stabbed. Police say Wascher stabbed both men in the chest and back.
According to officials, Wascher ran off into the woods after stabbing the two men. Two hours later, someone spotted Wascher in the woods.
“One of the victims suffered a puncture wound to the chest and four to the back,“ Lieutenant Paul Cicero with Hartford Police said. “The second victim, a 19-year-old man suffered a puncture wound to the chest and one to the back.“
Both men were immediately taken to the hospital while the University of Hartford went into lock down. Students and parents were notified of the crime scene on campus.
One victim was rushed into surgery and remains in critical condition. The second victim is expected to survive.
Police say the Wascher is currently facing assault charges, but his charges may be upgraded depending on the condition of the victims.
The student is expected to be arraigned in Hartford on Monday.
