Meet Peas and Carrots, two turkeys that won’t be on the menu this Thanksgiving.

The National Turkey Federation says it worked with a farmer to raise the duo.

“We started with 50 special turkeys and we built a special barn for them,” explained Jeff Sveen with the National Turkey Federation.

Officials say for the first time ever, the “National Thanksgiving Turkey” will come from the state of South Dakota, which produces millions of turkey’s each year.

These two made the final cut based on two factors.

“Good looks. We look for their walk see how they are strutting,” Sveen said.

And a gentle demeanor. The last thing you want at the white house is an angry turkey.

For the third year in a row, the presidential turkeys will go to Virginia Tech where they’ll live the rest of their lives at the Gobbler’s Rest.
