Black bear spotted wandering around East Hartford

East Hartford police are warning residents Friday of a black bear who was seen wandering around town.

Police say that officers encountered a “new neighbor,” who happened to be a black bear in the area of 800 Silver Lane.

The bear had been wandering in and out of the woods in the area of Clement Road and Gold Street.

According to police, the bear has not shown any signs of aggression. However, they do urge residents to remove bird feeders, cover garbage barrels and bring any food inside.

People should never approach a bear.

WATCH: Golden retriever follows owner up ladder onto roof

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A golden retriever is going viral after his owner's surveillance footage showed him climbing a ladder and following him onto the roof of his Oregon house.

Vince Matteson owns a pair of two-year-old golden retrievers, Ace and Bo, in Milwaukie. He posted video of one of the dogs, Ace, up on the roof of his house with him after discovering he had followed him there.

Pet food recall expanded after 70 dogs die from toxin

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) -- A pet food company says it has increased the number of brands it has recalled due to a dramatic increase in the number of dogs that have died.

In December, Midwestern Pet Foods voluntarily recalled three varieties of Sportmix dog foods and cat foods after 28 dogs died after eating the mix, which has since increased to 70.

Gorillas at San Diego Zoo test positive for COVID-19

SAN DIEGO (KSWB) -- Two gorillas at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park have tested positive for COVID-19 -- the first known instance of the virus being naturally transmitted to great apes.

The gorillas underwent testing for COVID-19 after they started coughing Wednesday, and results from the preliminary test came back positive on Friday, San Diego Global said in a press release. The U.S. Department of Agriculture National Veterinary Services Laboratories confirmed the positive results Monday.
