First, North Charleston Fire Department Capt. Paul Bryant dug a shepherd mix puppy out from under a pile of rocks and concrete slabs on March 30 after cyclists heard the puppy’s cries.
Now the 34-year firefighting veteran has adopted the puppy, taking him home from the Charleston Animal Society on Saturday. Local news outlets were on hand to witness the enthusiastic greeting the dog gave to his new owner.
Bryant’s family lost their last dog three years ago and had been looking for another one. He says that when he learned the dog was headed for the animal shelter, he decided that “he’s my dog and he’s coming home with me.”
And the puppy’s name? Bryant says he’ll be called Rocky.
