Blumenthal denouces President Trump’s plan to cut funding to Puerto Rico

(WTNH) — President Trump has announced that he intends to cut, cancel or delay recovery project funding, in order to help build a southern border wall.

Experts say that thousands are still suffering on the island in the wake of Hurricane Maria, which struck with a vengence in September of 2017.

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D) Connecticut said that the administration’s priorities are in the wrong place,

“The supplemental disaster relief fund must be sufficient to put Puerto Rico back on its’ feet and treated fairly. Make sure our fellow Americans have the education, health care, transportation, electricity grid they need and deserve.”

Puerto Rico’s Governor says that Hurricane Maria was responsible for almost three thousand people being killed on the island.
