Body found in Long Island Sound near Avery Point

A body was found in Long Island Sound on Thursday afternoon.

A Good Samaritan found the body about two and a half miles southeast of Avery Point around 12:19 p.m., according to officials.

The Coast Guard launched a boat to recover it. DEEP officials confirmed thereafter that it was the body of a 21-year-old man named Spencer Mugford.

Mugford had been missing since Memorial Day weekend. He was out on a tandem kayak with 20-year-old Sophia McKenna when they went missing.

McKenna has still not been found.
