As the World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers continues on the baseball diamond, a new battle is brewing between the orchestras of both cities.

In celebration of the World Series, BSO Music Director Andris Nelsons led the Boston Symphony Orchestra in an orchestral rendition of the Dropkick Murphys’ “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” on October 24 during the orchestra’s rehearsal at Symphony Hall. Before playing the Sox anthem, Nelsons challenged his counterpart, Gustavo Dudamel, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, to try and top their performance with a Dodgers theme song.

So far, the L.A. Philharmonic has not yet responded to the challenge.
