BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH)  –  Now that Bridgeport’s Pleasure Beach has reopened to the public, it’s breakwaters are getting repaired thanks to $2 million dollars from the U.S Army Corp of Engineers.   Bridgeport Mayor Bill finch says this will make the island and its visitors safer.

The 71 acre barrier island reopened last year after being closed since 1966 due to lack of visitors.  In 1996 a bridge that provided access to the island was destroyed by fire.

Since it’s reopening visitors can reach the island by a free water taxi.
