The world’s largest fast-food chain is continuing to shrink.
Subway reported that it closed 1,000 restaurants in the U.S. last year, and the number may actually be higher than that.
Subway did not disclose how many new stores were opened and some of the closed stores include locations that opened the same year.

Like others, Subway has struggled to keep up with changing consumer tastes.
They plan to start to remodel many stores with self-ordering kiosks, more comfortable seats, and even USB charging ports.
Subway currently has 24,000 stores in the US, but it has closed more than it’s opened every year since 2016.
