A woman was sent to the hospital following a single car crash in Plainfield early Wednesday morning.

Just after 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday, police say crews responded to single car crash that happened at the dead end portion of Phillips Street in Plainfield.

Officials say it was determined in an investigation that the driver of the car was traveling northbound on that street when she drove off the roadway striking a tree. They say that caused her car to turn sideway and then roll down an embankment.

Authorities say she was unable to free herself from the car, thus officers broke out the sunroof so she could get out. From there, they say she was taken to a hospital for possible injuries.

The investigation of this crash remains open, according to police.
