NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – The New Haven Chalk Art Festival is kicking off at CT Style. Artist Michael Micinilio demonstrates fun chalk art you can expect to see at the free event happening on Sunday from 10am-6pm at the Shops at Yale in New Haven.

The event is open to all age groups. Each participant will be given a 3′ x 3′ square space for their artwork. The surface is asphalt. Knee pads and/or towels are recommended. Water soluble chalks only. There will be four main categories:

  • Kids Freestyle Zone (between the ages of 6-12 yrs). Kids do not need register and will be given a free box of Crayola sidewalk chalk, available to the first 50 youth.
  • Teens (between the ages of 13-17)
  • Adults (18 years or older)
  • Groups (two or more artists 13 years or older, representing a group, art organization or family).

There will be great prizes for all categories.

The event will take place on Broadway Island at 56 Broadway, New Haven, across from Apple, J.Crew and Urban Outfitters. Free parking is available for spectators and participants at the 150 York Street Garage. Parking tickets must be validated at The Shops at Yale tent at the event. There is no fee to participate.
