Comcast service restored in Connecticut after widespread outages

News

(WTNH)– Comcast users throughout the state reported outages Monday morning. We still don’t know much about the outage, other than it is over.

News 8 received several messages through Report-It regarding many Comcast customers without TV, phone and internet.

If you thought it was just you, it wasn’t. It wasn’t even just Connecticut, either. However, a look at Comcast’s nationwide outage map shows the biggest, reddest splotch with the most people reporting outages is right here in Connecticut, mostly centered along the I-91 corridor.

It is an inconvenience when you your TV doesn’t work, but Comcast provides more than just TV. A lot of people get their internet and phone service through Comcast. Branford Hills Homecare Services is a senior care facility that has an internet-based phone system. When a resident had a cardiac episode this morning, staffers tried calling 911, but because of the Comcast outage, the regular phone system didn’t work. Fortunately, they keep an old, hardwired land-line phone around for emergencies. They called 911, the resident got a jolt from a defibrillator and the heart started beating again.

Lots of other people had issues that were not life-or-death, such as credit card readers not working at gas stations and parking garages, as happened to News8 photographers this morning.

Comcast says they have identified the issue and are working to return service as soon as possible. A spokesperson released the following brief statement explaining the outage:

Early this morning, we identified an issue that affected some of our customers. We have been working hard to return service as quickly as possible. We are so sorry – we know our customers rely on our services.”

The Comcast website’s down detector also shows an outage throughout Connecticut.
