Connecticut news icon Gerry Brooks retires

Legendary Connecticut journalist Gerry Brooks has retired after 44 years in the business.

Brooks, 66, has worked at multiple stations in Connecticut, including WAVZ, WPOP, WFSB, and WVIT. His final broadcast on WVIT was at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.

On his Facebook page, Brooks thanked his co-workers and viewers for their support over his career.

This is going to be an interesting week, so while I have the chance, I want to say thank you. To the people I’ve worked with for the past 44 years at WAVZ, WPOP, WFSB, and NBC Connecticut. As Keisha Grant says, “Teamwork makes the dream work.” Or something like that. And thank you to the people who made this run possible. You, the listeners and viewers who kept me employed all these years. And thank you to my hair, for staying just long enough to get me through Wednesday. I step aside with deep feelings of humility, gratitude, and satisfaction

All of us at News 8 wish Gerry all of the best as he begins the next chapter in his life.
