3 varsity coaches placed on administrative leave following Ridgefield baseball field fire

Three varsity coaches have been placed on administrative leave after a baseball field was set on fire in Ridgefield.

According to officials, on Saturday, individuals poured what was believed to be gasoline on the field at Governor Park and ignited it.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. William Collins said no students were involved in the act.

The superintendent added that it is not believed that the coaching staff was directly involved, but the three coaches were placed on leave “…out of an abundance of caution…pending the conclusion of the police investigation…”

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Ridgefield police.
