Police identify two people killed in double homicide on Platt Street in Bridgeport


BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — Bridgeport Police have arrested and charged a local man with murder after investigating a double homicide on Platt Street early Thursday morning. The suspect is in custody.

Police responded to the 300 block of Platt Street at around 1:24 a.m. Thursday on a report of victims inside the residents being injured by gunfire.

Officers responded, and police said someone from inside the house was shooting at the officers as they approached the residence.

Police said they were able to take cover safely, secure the perimeter, and evacuate residents from the area.

Police apprehended 25-year-old Tarik Francis after he surrendered to police. Francis is facing two murder charges, one count of criminal attempt murder, and one count of criminal Attempt Assault. Bond is set to $5 million and is Francis is set to appear in court Thursday.

Police found two homicide victims in the house. Police identified the victims as 19-year-old Candace Goodwin of Stratford and 59-year-old Austin Burgher of Jamaica.

Police said this is an isolated incident and the victims knew the suspect.
