Fairfield fourth graders help kick off new viral fundraising challenge

A new viral fundraising campaign is hitting the internet… and it’s kicking off right here in Connecticut

It’s called #Reason4FreezinMBC — and some fourth grade lacrosse players in Fairfield took the challenge Wednesday night.

It was started by Dr. Rebecca Timlin-Scalera, who began fundraising for research when she herself was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer

Rebecca founded the Cancer Couch Foundation after her metastatic breast cancer diagnosis in 2015. She started holding an ice cream eating contest at her kids’ school at the end of the school year as a way to raise money for research. She and her team of volunteers hosted these events until recently deciding to spread the word even further.

Now, she’s hoping this becomes next Ice Bucket Challenge.

“We had so much respect for how the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge took off, where we said, I think this is the way the world is changing,” she said. “Let’s see if we can make this viral where everyone can get involved.”

Here are the rules:

You have to eat something cold (and without using your hands). It can be ice cream, a smoothie, even ice chips.

Post the video with the hashtag #Reason4FreezinMBC

Nominate four people to take the challenge next. And, of course, donate

“I thought it was a good cause because you’re helping people who have cancer to make their lives better,” said Rose Robertson, who took Reason4FreezinMBC challenge Wednesday night.
