Greenwich man charged with animal abuse

A roaming Mastiff with signs and symptoms of being abused led to the arrest of 23-year-old Greenwich man Thursday.

According to Greenwich police, the mastiff was found roaming the area of Bruce Park with physical signs of being abused. Animal control in Greenwich stepped in, and upon investigation were able to obtain a warrant for Christian Dilworth’s arrest.

Dilworth turned himself in on Thursday, and is being held on $25,000 bond.

When investigators initially contacted Dilworth, he told them that the dog had died. Officers said he then gave misleading and contradicting information surrounding the dogs death.

The charges against Dilworth include the illegal release of a domestic animal, cruelty to animals, and failure to comply with dog ownership requirements.

Dilworth is set to appear in Stamford Superior Court on August 31st.
