FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) It took more than three hours and multiple fire departments to put out a two-alarm blaze last night at the former site of Fairfield Lumber.
The call first came in shortly after 7PM. People nearby reported smoke and then towering flames coming from the structure at 185 Thorpe Streeet. A plume of smoke could be seen for miles.
Three hours later the fire was out, but crews remained on the scene until this morning to make sure there were no flare-ups. In addition to the Fairfield Fire Department, firefighters and equipment from Bridgeport, Westport, Norwalk, Easton, and Stratford were also called in, according to the CT Post.
The site has not been an active lumber company for several years. No word yet as to what caused the fire.
