DANBURY, Conn. (WTNH) – One person is dead and two others injured after a fire at a home in Danbury early Wednesday morning.

The Danbury Fire Department tells News 8 they received calls about a fire at a two-story home on Stevens Street shortly before 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters rescued an adult male who escaped through a window on the second floor. He suffered burns and smoke inhalation and was transported to Bridgeport Hospital’s burn unit. Another woman, who escaped from the first floor on her own, was taken also taken to Bridgeport Hospital’s burn unit.

While searching the home, firefighters found a woman dead on the second floor of the home. An autopsy is being performed.

Officials say all three adults are related and lived on the first and second floor.

Eight other people in the home on the second and third floors, four adults and four children, escaped on their own without injuries. The families are now displaced.

The Danbury Fire Marshall’s division and the State Fire Marshall’s Office say it appears the fire started in a first floor front room, but the cause remains under investigation.
