PD: Shelton woman charged after leaving 3 children home alone, baby’s death in December

Fairfield

A Shelton woman is facing charges after police said she left three young children home alone back in December prior to the death of a 5-month-old baby.

According to officials, on Tuesday, 30-year-old Jessyka Oliveira was charged with three counts of risk of injury to a minor and one count of interfering with a police officer.

Authorities said the arrest stems from an incident in December of 2018. At that time, police were dispatched to a home after receiving a medical call. At the scene, police administered medical attention to a 5-month-old baby who was later pronounced deceased at a hospital.

Following an investigation, police said that two hours before the call, Oliveira left three children unattended at the home for a short period of time. The three children were all under the age of 6.

Detectives added that she was not truthful during her initial interviews.

Oliveira was released on a $5,000 bond and is appearing in court on Wednesday.
