Police: Man charged with attempted murder after Stratford shooting

A Bridgeport man is facing numerous charges including criminal attempt at murder after a shooting in Stratford on Saturday night.

According to officials, around 10:45 p.m., units responded to Wiklund Avenue after learning of an alleged assault and shots being fired.

At the scene, police found a man who had been shot in the leg. Further investigation revealed that the victim was the ex-boyfriend of a girl who 19-year-old Davonte Whitehurst was visiting.

The victim allegedly arrived at the residence uninvited, which led to a verbal argument and shots being fired.

Police said Whitehurst fled the scene but he was later stopped by officers and the firearm was recovered.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Whitehurst has been charged with criminal attempt at murder, assault in the first degree, and other related charges.

Bond was set at $250,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 31st.
