Kichar called 911 and knocked at their door repeatedly after seeing smoke coming from the home on his way to work Sunday morning.

The homeowners told Kichar they were asleep and unaware of the fire.

Kichar helped them and the family dog get out of the home before firefighters arrived.

No one was injured but officials say the home is uninhabitable.

The Red Cross is assisting the homeowners.

Officials say the fire at the single-story home started in the garage and spread to the attic. The cause is under investigation.
