Purdue considering bankruptcy as lawsuits pile up


The Stamford-based maker of OxyContin is considering bankruptcy.

It comes as the first trial date nears in hundreds of lawsuits aiming to hold Purdue Pharma and others in the drug industry accountable for the opioid crisis.

The lawsuits assert Purdue aggressively sold OxyContin as a drug with a low chance of triggering addictions despite knowing that wasn’t true.

The bankruptcy filing would likely pause the suits.
