STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut woman charged with slashing a baker in the neck at a bagel shop has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.

The Stamford Advocate reports a judge ruled Wednesday that 26-year-old Amani Brown was suffering from a mental disorder at the time of the crime in April 2018, excusing her from criminal liability.

The Stamford woman was ordered to be committed to determine her mental state, which will determine if she will be sent to the state’s most secure hospital for the criminally insane.

Brown’s attorney says she’s pleased her client’s mental health is being addressed.

The verdict capped off a two-day trial, who was also facing assault, burglary and weapon charges that would have put her away for as many as 43 years.
