Guilford Sportsmen’s Association hosts Take a Vet Fishing event

Connecticut

Dozens of veterans spent Saturday fishing and relaxing, thanks to volunteers and the Take a Vet Fishing organization.

Veterans got to reel in a day of relaxation at the Guilford’s Sportsmen’s Association.

Volunteers stock the pond and give rides too. Organizers say it can provide healing for those who are recovering from PTSD and addiction.

Willie Williams, a Marine Vietnam Veteran said, “It’s very relaxing to get out here and get amongst our vets and plus the volunteers who help us a lot with our problems.”

Ray Luhn, the Founding Member of Take A Vet Fishing said, “It was a simple idea and it turned out to be a wonderful thing that really got legs between the volunteers that showed up and the vets that participated. They just had so much fun.”

It started in 2007 and “Take a Vet Fishing” hosts nearly 20 fishing events throughout the year.
