Police say at around 8:40 p.m., officers observed a 2018 Chevrolet Impala speeding on Park Street. When officers pulled it over, they say a weapon was observed in plain view.
This led police to conduct a further search of the car and allegedly find a Smith and Wesson Model SW9VE with an obliterated serial number, and with 15 9mm rounds, along with a baseball bat.
The passenger, 26-year-old Antoinette Neal, of Hartford, claimed ownership of the gun, even though it was learned that she is prohibited from possessing one.
Neal was then arrested and charged with Possession of a Pistol without a Permit, Weapons in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Altering a Firearm’s ID, and Possession of a High Capacity Magazine.
The driver of the car, 52-year-old Luis Vargas, of West Hartford, was also arrested and charged with traveling too fast and weapons in a motor vehicle.
