Three people were able to escape an overnight fire in East Berlin early Tuesday morning.
Authorities received multiple calls at 1:38 a.m. in regards to a big fire on Sun Meadow Drive.
When crews arrived, they say that’s exactly what they found.
Luckily, three people, including one child, were able to escape on their own before crews arrived.
With the residents out safely, crews did not enter the house and battled the blaze from the outside.
“When we got on scene, we knew that everyone was out of the house so our fire crews did not enter the house,” said East Berlin Fire Department Chief Thomas Farr II. “We did an exterior attack, getting the main body of the fire knocked down, and we started going inside to do some overhaul.”
Chief Farr says the roof and top floor of the home collapsed onto the first floor. He says crews now have to dig through everything to get all the remaining hot spots
The family of the home was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
It is still not known what caused this fire.
