BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH)– Police are investigating after a box truck lost control and drove into the Pequabuck River in Bristol Wednesday morning.

Police say at around 9:30 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Memorial Blvd. and Willis Street for a reported serious accident. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the truck lost control and crashed into the Pequabuck River. The driver sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Bristol Hospital for treatment.

DEEP also responded to the scene because diesel fuel leaked from the truck into the river. No other vehicles were involved and the accident remains under investigation.

Police say the westbound lane of Memorial Blvd. from Mellen Street to Main Street is closed at this time. There is no word on when all lanes will reopen.
