NEWINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — An SUV crashed into a building off the Berlin Turnpike late Sunday night, Newington police said.

Police said the driver of the SUV was traveling southbound on the Berlin Turnpike around 11:45 p.m. when he went off the roadway, striking the Floors Now storefront, located at 2516 Berlin Turnpike, next to Dairy Queen.

The driver, described by police as an adult man, and the passenger, an adult woman, were taken to a local hospital for what police said appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Town of Newington building officials evaluated the Floor Now building to ensure the structure’s safety, which has been cleared for occupancy.
