A fatal officer-involved shooting in Wethersfield will be investigated by the Hartford State’s Attorney’s office.

On Saturday evening, 18-year-old Anthony Jose Vega Cruz was struck by gunfire. He succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

Police said they tried to pull Cruz over on Silas Deane Highway after believing that he might have been driving a stolen vehicle.

According to officials, as an officer exited his cruiser, Cruz drove at him before police opened fire.

…”It is my intent to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation. I understand and respect the public’s desire to view any video evidence. I must balance the needs of the investigation with the public’s right to know what happened and I intend to disclose those videos as soon as I can determine that disclosure will not interfere with the investigation…” Hartford State’s Attorney Gail P. Hardy said.

The Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad is assisting with the investigation.
