Convicted felon arrested after shooting at apartment with 7 children inside

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Hartford Police arrested a convicted felon after he shot a man and continued to fire a gun in an apartment with seven children inside at the time.

Officers with the Hartford Police Department responded to 283 Wethersfield Avenue around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to Hartford Police, Yamil Rohena, 21, a convicted felon of Wethersfield who was out on parole, knocked on the rear door of an apartment, got into an argument and ended up shooting a man.

Hartford Police told News 8 that Rohena and the victim fell through the door of a neighboring apartment, where Rohena continued to fire his gun.

Seven children were inside the apartment at the time of the incident.

The shooting victim was able to disarm and detain Rohena until police arrived on scene.

The victim is expected to be okay.

No other injuries were reported.

Rohena faces a number of charges.
