We’re heading to West Hartford for today’s Destination Location!
Have you checked it out West Hartford Center lately? It’s booming! In the past decade it’s become a popular spot for shopping and dining – people in the area call it a food mecca.
“It’s changed a lot over the past 23 years,” said Billy Grant. He and his brothers own the restaurant group that includes Bricco and Grant’s in West Hartford Center. Bricco recently celebrate its 23rd anniversary. “When I started 23 years ago there were only 3 restaurants in the area,” he added, “and now there’s a lot more than 3 restaurants”
Across the street, Union Kitchen just opened up on Dec. 5.
“It’s a good community in general,” said Zach Shuman, a West Hartford native and culinary director at Union Kitchen. “I grew up here, I know the schools are good, the people are good.”
It’s not just restaurants: shops have seen longtime success in the center too.
“We’ve seen a lot of change,” said Karen Herbert, who has owned BK&CO with Barbara Karsky for 24 years. “What’s the most exciting thing now is that people are looking for an experience in their shopping. They can shop online but they can come here and have an experience.”
“You can stroll, you can window shop, you can bring your kids, you can go for a bite, said Karsky, “there’s so many great services… it offers so much and it’s so rare these days.”
