HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A gas leak prompted some evacuations on Main Street in downtown Hartford Monday.

A third-party contractor damaged a gas main at the intersection of Main Street and Pearl Street, United Illuminating officials said. The four-inch plastic main on Peal Street has been shut off to stop the gas flow.

The leak was contained by 1:45 p.m. Gas may still be smelled in the area.
