Hartford ordinance proposes council oversight of police surveillance

The Hartford City Council wants to take control of police surveillance in the city.

The City Council is proposing a city ordinance that would require government agencies, including the police department,  to get city council approval before purchasing any surveillance technology.

People living in the city would also get to voice any concerns.

City council members say this would ensure everyone knows what technology is being used so privacy would not be impacted.
