A band’s merchandise dealer was arrested in Hartford on Monday for allegedly stealing money from the band’s tour bus.
Police say that at around 1:15 a.m., officers responded to The Webster Theater, at 31 Webster Street, after band members reported that $18,000 in cash that was in a cardboard box was stolen from their tour bus.
According to police, band members had suspected that their merchandise dealer was responsible and was acting suspicious when questioned before police were called.
When officers interviewed the suspect, he initially denied knowing where the missing money was. However, a few hours later, band members called police again and had more questions.
Police say that the band members then started searching their trailer and found the cardboard box with the money wrapped up in the suspect’s sweater with other merchandise boxes.
The suspect again denied involvement but then allegedly finally admitted to taking the money once he realized that the band was firing him and that he wouldn’t be allowed back on the tour bus.
He also told police that he was tired of the band members leaving money all over the bus and wanted to prove a point but was going to return the money later.
