HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Hartford police are investigating a shooting that left one woman dead and another in critical condition on Monday morning.

Police responded to an apartment on Evergreen Avenue for the report of a shooting. One woman was found dead. The other woman who was shot was the one that called 911. She is now listed in critical condition.

Both women were in the same apartment at the time of the shooting.

“It appears at this time that they were in bed at the time of the attack. There’s a lot to do on this obviously. Major crimes is here, crime scene division is on its way to process the scene. That’s where we are,” Lt. Aaron Boisvert with the Hartford Police Department said.

Police say the surviving victim was not able to give any information about what happened. Police say this could have been an act of domestic violence as there was nothing to indicate it was random.

“The front door was open when [the] fire [department] got in here. I don’t know if it was locked prior to that,” Boisvert said. “There are cameras in the building. If you around back, there’s what appears to be like a card access to get in. This is a secure building.”

Police identified the woman killed as 21-year-old Allison McCoy of Hartford.

This shooting follows Sunday’s homicide on Bellevue Street, marking the third homicide in Hartford this year. In a statement Monday afternoon, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said investigators determined the two homicides are not related.

My heart goes out to the loved ones and friends of the victims of these two shootings. I have been in close contact with the Police Department and, while it is still very early in both investigations, we can confirm that the two incidents are not related, and that in both incidents, the victims were connected to their assailants in some way.

In the shooting that occurred Sunday morning, detectives believe Tyrek Walcott was shot while in his vehicle interacting with someone, and drugs were found at the scene. In a separate incident early this morning, two females were shot while lying in bed in their apartment. At this early stage in the investigation, police believe that this was likely a tragic incident of domestic violence.
