HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Police have identified a person who was shot in the head while driving Thursday night in Hartford.

The homicide happened in the 500 block of Hillside Avenue, according to police. Officers were called to the area at about 5:30 p.m. after ShotSpotter recorded that multiple rounds were fired.

When they arrived, officers found a vehicle that had crashed into a fence. Manuel Rodriguez, a 23-year-old from Hartford, was found inside with a bullet wound to the head.

A woman was also in the vehicle, according to police. She was injured, but not shot.

The shooting happened after the shooter’s vehicle rear-ended Rodriguez’s vehicle, and then tried to drive off, according to police. Rodriguez then tried to follow the shooter’s vehicle out of the city. A passenger then stepped out of the vehicle and shot at him.

While police have recovered the shooter’s vehicle, it has not specified where it was found. The shooter is not in custody.

It was the 33rd homicide in Hartford this year.
