Hartford police investigating homicide of 16-year-old boy

Hartford Police are investigating a homicide early Wednesday morning in Hartford.

According to officials, Hartford officers are investigating a homicide at 800 Albany Avenue in Hartford. Police responded to the report at 12:54 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said the victim was found inside a crashed vehicle with gunshot wounds.

The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Felipe Lopez of Windsor, Connecticut. Lopez was a student at Windsor High School and the school provided grief counselors on Wednesday.

His big brother, Jose, said Felipe was excited to start working and supporting his 9-month-old daughter at home. He doesn’t understand why anyone would want to hurt him.

“It’s still shocking. I don’t know how to deal with it. I never lost something this close to home like this. It’s going to be hard not to see him, not to get a message, a phone call, none of that. It’s going to be real hard,” Jose said.

“Every homicide is difficult. There’s a lot of emotions. Sad. Anger. You know, why is a 16 year old driving around at 1:00 a.m.? Why is he in a car that’s not registered or insured. What’s he doing on there? Why did someone feel it was the best course of action to take this young boy’s life” Lt. Paul Cicero with Hartford police stated.

Police said they don’t have anyone in custody for the crime.

A vigil will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. where the murder took place.

Windsor High School will have grief counselors on hand Thursday.

Police ask if anyone has information on this incident to contact them at their tip line at 860-722-TIPS.
