HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Hartford police officers will begin carrying narcan this month.
Narcan is the lifesaving antidote that can reverse the deadly effects of opioid overdose.
The Hartford Police Department is going to be carrying this because of some recently approved funding.
The 21st century Cures Act was approved with broad bipartisan support last week.
“The Cures Act marked major progress in fighting the epidemic of opioid addiction,” Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal said. “It puts the nation’s money where its mouth is to expand access to naloxone, support prescription drug monitoring programs, train providers in opioid prescribing and expand support for badly needed substance abuse programs and services.”
