I-84 west Exit 40 on-ramp closes for 7 months for construction starting today

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Starting Monday, the Exit 40 on-ramp to I-84 west in West Hartford will be closed for seven months.

The state Department of Transportation says the closure and detour are necessary to work on construction and safety improvement to the I-84 west bridge over Ridgewood Road.

Monday is the first day the on-ramp will be closed on 84-West at exit 40. But we’re not just talking about a minor project. It will be closed well into the fall.

This is part of the state Department of Transportation’s efforts to replace the bridge over Ridgewood Road. This is a 54 million dollar project.

The DOT’s is adding an additional lanes on I-84 west between exits 39A and 43. And between exit 40 and 41 on 84-East. They are also widening and replacing bridges over Ridgewood and Berkshire roads.

The detour will be New Britain Avenue where you can connect to I-84-West from Route 9.

This whole project will last seven months.
