It’s patio season: Pratt Street becomes pedestrian-only for lunch hour in Hartford

Hartford

When the weather warms up, the Pratt Street Patio comes out.

Every weekday at lunchtime this downtown Hartford street transforms into a pedestrian-only paradise.

The street is filled with tables for outdoor dining and even live music every Thursday.

“We’ve been waiting for it to get blocked off, we like walking down here,” said Jodi Mangene, who works downtown. We have good music behind us, so we try to get out and get as much exercise as we can.”

It’s great for people looking to spend a little time outdoors and for the businesses on the block.

“We just get more foot traffic, more visibility, and it’s fun,” said Hannah Smith, store manager at Hartford Prints on Pratt Street. She says “patio season” has a big impact on business. “We open our door, have more conversions with people.”

There’s new entertainment every week, plus events from yoga to salsa throughout the summer. There’s even a Women’s World Cup party.

Pratt Street patio runs through September 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays. For the full lineup of Thursday live music and “Free Friday” entertainment, visit hartford.com.
