A Hartford man was arrested for allegedly smashing a police cruiser with a brick while an officer was sitting inside of it on Monday night.

Police say just after 9 p.m., an officer reported that while sitting in his marked police cruiser on a road closure at Laurel Street and Farmington Avenue, his driver’s side window was abruptly smashed in by a brick.

The brick nearly missed the officer’s head.

The officer was able to broadcast the suspect’s description and the suspect was later caught by other officers in the area. He was identified as 20-year-old Devon Adams-Almstad.

According to police, Adams-Almstad told them that he hates cops and was targeting a white officer due to the recent events in the news.

The officer sustained minor cuts to his right arm but did not receive medical attention.

Adams-Almstad was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, assault on police, reckless endangerment, hate crime and breach of peace.

He was held on a $100,000 bond.
